Fall Friends

Pediatric Residents Make BrightStart Rounds

Story time covers Cinderella of the PPEC. Here, the single AFO slipper found on the playground is fitted to its owner, revealing her true identity.

The calendar says it’s fall! While the leaves may not be dropping yet in Central Florida, BrightStart PPPEC centers have had a few new friends drop by to visit. Just in time to see some fall decorations … for October, anyway.

Dr. Juliana Parra DO, a first-year pediatric resident with AdventHealth had her first look at the PPEC program in BrightStart Winter Garden.

Nursing Director Karen Peters RN toured Dr. Parra through a busy day of nursing, therapy and love.

September, and you’re already tired of pumpkin spice anything.

Sanford Sights

At BrightStart Sanford patients and staff doubled their resident fun with a tour from Dr. Anthony Bates MD and Dr. Pia Houkayem MD, pediatric residents in the Orlando Health system.

Dr. Bates looks familiar – he’s the triumphant baby holder previously seen at Winter Garden.

His popularity just keeps growing with BrightStart patients! This time he was a toddler favorite with trick throw and catch activities.

BrightStart’s exclusive Smolder Therapy™ helps kids reach their portrait potential.
When you’ve just learned to clap, but you’re not sure you’re supposed to do that.
Dr. Pia gives the “Why we can’t have dodgeball” talk.

For her first look at the BrightStart PPEC program, Dr. Pia (as she prefers) had her share of new fans, from the smallest to the busiest.

Orlando Observations

Meanwhile, BrightStart Orlando welcomed Dr. Jessica Bell MD, a Fellow with Nemours Children’s Hospital.

An Orlando native, Dr. Bell completed her pediatric residency in Florida before pursuing her fellowship.

She’s planning for a hospitalist position and staying in Central Florida with her husband and a new arrival next year.

Her introduction to the BrightStart PPEC program was led by BrightStart founder and Program Director Linda Brown. Clinical details were covered by Director of Nursing Karen Peters. But it wasn’t all work, since Dr. Bell got to make some new friends and joined in with music therapy.

Thank you to our friends at AdventHealth, Orlando Health and Nemours Children’s Hospital for their invaluable partnership!
